PIDC launched the D’Alessio Scholarship for Urban Development in 2018 when the organization marked its 60th anniversary, and in recognition of Walt D’Alessio’s decades of commitment and leadership at PIDC; his many years of service to Philadelphia’s business, civic, and governmental communities; and his support for people across the profession.

This year, the scholarship carries a deeper meaning as we honor the memory of Walt and the more than 46 years he dedicated to PIDC as its chief executive and chairman. Though no longer with us, his unwavering commitment to supporting growth through Philadelphia lives on through the opportunities this scholarship provides, empowering the next generation to follow in his footsteps.

Up to two (2) scholarships of up to $2,500 each will be awarded. Scholarship recipients will also be offered a paid PIDC fall internship in 2025. To be eligible, you must be:

  1. Pursuing a graduate degree
  2. A student at a Philadelphia college or university; or a Philadelphia resident at a college or university studying outside the Philadelphia area
  3. Pursuing one of the following areas of study:
    • Urban Studies
    • Economics
    • Law
    • Public Administration
    • Real Estate
