PIDC-D’ALESSIO SCHOLARSHIP FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Walt D’Alessio has committed more than 46 years to PIDC as its chief executive and Chairman. He embodies the core principles of the PIDC partnership—dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to supporting growth throughout Philadelphia. As part of PIDC’s 60th Anniversary in 2018, and in recognition of Walt’s decades of commitment and leadership at PIDC; his many years of service to Philadelphia’s business, civic and governmental communities; and his support for people across the profession, we launched the PIDC-D’Alessio Scholarship Fund to support graduate students at Philadelphia schools seeking to pursue a career in urban development and finance.

AWARD INFORMATION

In 2025, up to two (2) scholarships of up to $2,500 each will be awarded. Scholarship recipients will also be offered a paid PIDC fall internship in 2025. To be eligible, you must be:

1. Pursuing a graduate degree

2. A student at a Philadelphia college or university; or a Philadelphia resident at a college or university studying outside the Philadelphia area

3. Pursuing one of the following areas of study:

  • Urban Studies
  • Economics
  • Law
  • Public Administration
  • Real Estate
  • Regional and/or City Planning
  • Urban Planning and Design

  3. Community service & volunteering
  4. Honors & awards
  5. Work & internship experience, if any
  6. Two short essays of no more than 250 words each
  7. Most recent undergraduate college/university transcript
  8. Most recent graduate college/university transcript

Essay Questions:

  1. What do you do to give back to your community and why is it important to you?
  2. How will this scholarship and internship opportunity advance your career and/or personal life?

PLEASE NOTE: Official transcripts are not required; you may upload unofficial transcripts. Your full name must be visible on all documentation provided. Your transcript should be a full transcript, showing all grades, not just a grade report.
