In 2021, PIDC introduced a new initiative in partnership with Greenline Access Capital to provide resources to the Latino and Hispanic community titled Business Builder En Espanol. This initiative was introduced to provide opportunities for non English speakers who are also business owners in the city of Philadelphia. Experts in finance, marketing, mental health and more come together to share their expertise and help improve the businesses of Hispanic and Latino businesses owners around the city.

Meet Victor Garrido, managing member at GG CPA Services, partner at Greenberg & Associates, and advocate for Philadelphia’s Latino business community. As a trusted tax advisor and current member of the Philadelphia Tax Reform Commission, Victor brings a unique perspective to economic development, one grounded in both financial expertise and community empowerment.

Garrido is a driving force behind PIDC’s efforts to make business education more accessible through Spanish-language workshops tailored specifically for Hispanic entrepreneurs. With Spanish-speakers representing almost 15% of Philadelphia’s population, Garrido understands that language should never be a barrier to opportunity.

Through PIDC’s Business Builder initiative, Garrido leads our popular workshop titled “Preparing for Tax Season” through Business Builder En Espanol. This workshop walks individuals through the importance of tax season, why you should start preparing your documents early, where and how to file your taxes, and more.

Business owners walk away with practical insights, direct access to tax season guides and clear strategies they can implement immediately at no cost and Garrido has been able to see the great value that the workshops have added to the business owners in the community.

“We have observed numerous business owners successfully implement our recommendations, resulting in improved profitability and significant tax savings,” said Giarrdo. “Ultimately, these efforts allow entrepreneurs to retain more of their hard-earned income and strengthen the financial health of their businesses. Wealth creation through entrepreneurship remains a powerful and sustainable pathway to lifting Philadelphians out of poverty.”

Victor continues to push for systemic change, advocating for a more business-friendly Philadelphia by streamlining licensing, zoning, and reducing the city’s tax burden. His mission is clear: to build an economy where every entrepreneur, regardless of language or background, has the tools to thrive.
