PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER

Since its construction in 1993, the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) has consistently hosted successful, record-breaking meetings and conventions. Now, in its 25th year, the PCC has welcomed 27.2 million visitors, hosted over 7,000 events, and generated $13.3 billion in regional economic impact. Its location makes it one of Philadelphia’s prime spots to host events with many hotels, restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions within walking distance.

With 1 million square-feet of meeting spaces and one of the largest ballrooms in the Northeast, its impact on the meeting and conventions world has garnered major attention. The PCC was able to flourish even more once it received some major changes to its existing structure, in 2011, which led to it increasing in size by 62 percent. PIDC helped finance a $700 million dollar expansion to the six-block structure. This expansion included an entrance on North Broad Street serving as the gateway to Philadelphia’s arts and cultural venues, as well as the museums on Benjamin Franklin Parkway, via Lenfest Plaza. Visitors can also reach Philadelphia’s Historic District through the Arch Street entrance.

During PCC’s existence, Philadelphia has more than doubled its hotel inventory and 73,300 people are employed in the hospitality industry. As the number of visitors to the city has increased exponentially, the hospitality industry exceeded these rising expectations. In a new destination promotion video, titled ‘Frankly Philadelphia’, the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau showcases the city’s many attributes.

As the PHLCVB puts it, “With a state-of-the-art Convention Center located in the heart of the city (boasting the largest ballroom on the East Coast), plus world-class shopping, nightlife, culture, dining and thousands of hotel rooms all within a few blocks, there is nothing missing in this modern metropolis.” Frankly speaking?
