Urban Land Institute (ULI) Philadelphia hosted its Awards for Excellence 2018 in June to celebrate all aspects of development and land use in addition to recognizing superior projects completed in the region within the last five years. Winners were announced at a celebration featuring Inga Saffron, Pulitzer-Prize- winning Architectural Critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer. The El Corazon Cultural Center, one of PIDC’s New Markets Tax Credits projects, emerged as one of twelve winners of the Willard G. Rouse III Excellence Awards.

Taller Puertorriqueño’s El Corazón Cultural Center is a new 25,000 square foot one-story community facility on a vacant 2.5-acre parcel located in the Latin Barrio neighborhood of Philadelphia. The $11 million project was made possible through an $8 million PIDC New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) allocation. A national jury of 12 experts recognized El Corazon Cultural Center for excellence in community impact, sustainability, and financial success.

“After an exhilarating and foundational year embracing change that enhanced our mission at ULI Philadelphia, this year’s Awards winners embody all the basic tenets of ULI and showcase the innovation of our robust development community,” said Paul Commito, Chair of ULI Philadelphia and Senior Vice President of Development at Brandywine Realty Trust.
