Untitled-1The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is presenting its 2013 Annual Conference in Philadelphia October 6th-9th. Philadelphia is looking forward to hosting the annual conference this fall as it will bring economic developers together from all across the world. The conference will address obstacles facing economic developers and existing trends in our dynamic economy.

As the world’s 5th largest economy, the 200-mile area centered on Philadelphia accounts for 18% of the U.S. population, and is home to more than 120 of the Fortune 500. Conference attendees can experience the area’s transformation from a manufacturing based economy into a learning region that boasts an array of key strengths. Through a program of top speakers, cutting-edge topics, and educational tours, conference attendees will not only see the region’s innovative energy, but leave with fresh strategies and tools to take their organizations to the next level.

The Greater Philadelphia region is hub of the largest, busiest and most diversified region in the United States.  From Princeton New Jersey to Wilmington Delaware, the tri-state region around Philadelphia Pennsylvania is mid-way between New York City and Washington DC—just an hour or so in either direction. This is a great opportunity for the three states to partner and present a comprehensive conference designed to create discussions to shape the future of the economy.

This year’s theme focuses on transformation, innovation and reinvention: creating tomorrow’s economy today. By envisioning a better community you can transform it. Through innovation you can re-invent it. By building on existing strengths, you will revitalize it. Against a backdrop of heightened risk awareness and uncertainty, economic development practitioners must help transform their regions into locations where policies and programs mitigate risk and add certainty to the business climate. With the right tools, economic developers everywhere can create a vision for the future, stimulate consensus, and prepare their communities for 21st century success.

The conference is proud to welcome feature keynote speaker Denise Morrison, President and CEO of Campbell Soup Company. Morrison has more than 30 years in the food business and has a distinguished track record of building strong businesses and growing iconic brands. During the conference, PIDC President John Grady and Deputy Mayor of Economic Development Alan Greenberger will be panelists for the Innovative Public/Private Partnerships to Support Entrepreneurship Session. Attendees will also learn about the development of The Navy Yard and visit the EEB Hub’s “living laboratory” headquarters, GlaxoSmithKline’s double LEED® Platinum headquarters, Urban Outfitters’ corporate office campus, and see examples of additional green development, energy initiatives, and more.

Early registration deadline is July 26. Join hundreds of economic developers this fall for what promises to be an exciting conference. Click here to register today.
