PIDC_No taglineOn November 1, 2013, PIDC opened a new funding round for Stormwater Management Incentives Program (SMIP) grants. This innovative program, part of our ongoing partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department, offers commercial and industrial users grant funds to build green stormwater infrastructure aimed at reducing runoff and lowering stormwater bills. Program funds can be particularly useful for owners and tenants of large, impervious properties with minimal green space that generate significant stormwater runoff.

To date, the program has helped fund more than $9 million worth of new stormwater infrastructure, including subsurface storage basins, rain gardens, porous paving and green roofs spread across more than 75 green acres throughout Philadelphia. Program funds can also be used for design and engineering services associated with green stormwater infrastructure. This new round aims to fund up to an additional $5 million worth of grants. PWD typically awards up to $100,000 in grant funding per impervious acre “greened.”

As in prior rounds, grants will be awarded through a competitive application process. PWD staff will evaluate proposals and select grant recipients; grant funds will be administered by PIDC. Strong applications will include detailed, feasible project proposals and leverage significant private match funding.

Grant applications are available online (www.pidc-pa.org/development-and-contract-opportunties/rfp-rfq-opportunities) and completed proposals are due to PIDC by 12 pm on January 31st, 2014.  Applications must be submitted by CD-ROM or flash drive to PIDC’s offices at 1500 Market Street, Suite 2600 West.  For additional information please visit http://www.phillywatersheds.org/what_were_doing/SMIP_Grant.
