Over the past three months, 10 undergraduate and graduate-level students have had the opportunity to intern in PIDC’s real estate, financing, market development and operational departments including The Navy Yard. The 2012 Summer Intern class includeding Jelani Amoroso and Andrew Thompson, Legal Department; Harrison Courtney, Accounting; Lauren Hansen-Flaschen, Financial Services/Market Development; Amanda Mitcheltree, Market Development; Ali Pedersen and Sam Wonderling, The Navy Yard;  Dylan Salmons and Maurie Smith, Real Estate Services;  Maurie Smith, Real Estate Services;  Andrew Thompson, Legal Department;  and Shelby Tucker, Financial Services; and Sam Wonderling, Navy Yard.;

PIDC’s interns have significantly contributed to the various departments’ missions, administrative work, research, and marketing initiatives this summer.  In keeping with Mayor Michael Nutter’s Smart City, Smart Choice initiative, PIDC recognizes that offering internship opportunities interning in Philadelphia lays the foundation for keeping a young talent pool in the cityPhiladelphia which will attract new businesses and allow existing companies to stay and grow here.  The internship experience at PIDC not only gives students invaluable learning experiences across diverse departments, but exposes Philadelphia as a promising place to start and grow a career after graduation.

As a PIDC Market Development Intern, Amanda Mitcheltree,of Temple University; has had the privilege of assistingassisted the city-wide economic development corporation with its social media and online strategy. Implementing a strong presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin has become the standardan important way for businesses, both for-profit and non-profit, to engage with past, current and future clients, as well as partners and stakeholders. Mobile lifestyles and technology have transformed the way businesses interact on these social platforms and social media outlets have become essential communications tools. Generating compelling content that promotes action is a primary goal of the online arena, and the City and PIDC are maximizing their communications reach through regular social media meet-ups and integrated campaigns.
