ManufacturingSummitOn October 1, Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC) in partnership with JOBS 1St and Southeast PA Partnerships for Regional Economic Performance (PREP), hosted the Greater Philadelphia Manufacturing Summit at the Simeone Automotive Museum. The theme of this exciting event was “Energize your Spirt of Competition.”  The goal of the event was to reenergize and refocus the region and policy makers on the diversity of products that are actively being designed and manufactured in the Philadelphia region, from chocolate to medical devices to helicopters. Participating speakers and exhibitors also focused heavily on the many career opportunities available in manufacturing. Here’s a brief video recap below.

On October 3rd in celebration of National Manufacturing Day, DVIRC in partnership the Mayor’s Office, the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Manufacturing & Industry, and Philadelphia City Councilman Bobby Henon, coordinated a day of tours at manufacturing companies around the city for Philadelphia middle school and high-school students.  These tours served to further open the eye of students to the exciting career opportunities that are available to them in the manufacturing sector.  Participating companies that opened their doors to students included PIDC clients, AgustaWestland  and Northeast Building Products , as well as  Ehmke Manufacturing, and Stockwell Elastomerics.

PIDC also participated in the Urban Manufacturing Alliance 3rd Annual National Convening that was hosted in Philadelphia from October 15th-17th. The event brought together the top practitioners and thinkers influencing urban manufacturing.
