FringeArts is seeking artists for project that will protect the environment and spark creativity.

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

FringeArts wants to expand accessibility of its permanent facility to Philadelphia’s bicycle commuters while also contributing to the vibrancy of the city as a living work of art. To that end, they will commission an individual or group to create bicycle racks that collectively function as a piece of sustainable, permanent, site-specific public art. The goal of this project is twofold: to promote healthy-living and a cleaner environment by reducing the ecological footprint of motor vehicles on Philadelphia; and to continue to transform FringeArts’ Delaware River waterfront location into a welcoming and vivid artistic experience. Through the creation of these bicycle racks, FringeArts intends to promote the creativity of the Philadelphia visual arts community as means of supporting sustainable ways of living.

BIKE RACK DESIGN GUIDELINES:

Philadelphia artists are encouraged to submit proposals for this project such that: the bicycle racks can accommodate 15-25 individual bicycles, must conform to locations of FringeArts’ choosing, and must meet all additional requirements as outlined by the City of Philadelphia Streets Department in its application for Artistic or Sculptural Racks:http://potholes.phila.gov/tap.nsf/Phila_Bike_Rack_App_and_Guide.pdf

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES:

Please submit a proposal and design including: a detailed description of your proposed structure; a visual representation of your design in a format of the artist’s choosing; your ideal timeline and a proposed schedule; a detailed budget; and a list of key project participants, with brief bios. FringeArts will provide a fee based on the proposed estimate.
