PIDC was proud to take part in Community Partnership School Groundbreaking Ceremony. PIDC provided the school with a New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) investment and a RACP Bridge Loan. This project will aid the staff in continuing to provide a high-quality education for its students and serve as a positive impact on the community.

Community Partnership School was founded in 2006 by a partnership between Germantown Academy and Project H.O.M.E. to attend to the educational needs of children from an underserved North Central Philadelphia neighborhood characterized by high rates of poverty and low rates of graduation.

It provides pre-kindergarten and elementary age children from low-wealth, low-income backgrounds in North Central Philadelphia with a high-quality, affordable education that prepares them for lifelong success and strengthens the communities to which they belong.  Their model includes after school and summer programming, an active home-school collaboration, and employment of community members as staff.

The financing from PIDC will allow Community Partnership School to relocate from its current location at Project HOME’s Honickman Learning Center and Comcast Technology Labs, and more than double the school’s current enrollment from 110 students to 225 students. Its new location will be at Glenwood Avenue and Oxford Street intersection, the Brewerytown Community.

The property will be completely redeveloped to include a 7,545 square foot partial demolition and a total renovation of the remaining 55,000 square feet.  In addition to traditional classrooms, the facility will include a gymnasium, dining area, art room, and outdoor space.  Construction is expected to be completed by the summer 2018 in preparation for the 2018 school year.

“During our 12 years in operation, Community Partnership School has crafted and refined a program that maximizes community assets, partnerships with parents and guardians, and most importantly, our students’ natural brilliance and sense of wonder,” said CPS Head of School Eric Jones in a statement to The Philadelphia Tribune. “We are ready to expand our reach and deepen our impact. Breaking ground on a new campus is the first step toward realizing these goals.”
