Hair Du Jour Salon is a cut above the rest. Inspired by her aunt’s support and the desire to provide others with the opportunities she had, Ann Turner embarked on her entrepreneurial journey, establishing her West Philadelphia salon in 2015.

This black-owned salon takes inclusivity seriously. With a commitment to quality services for anyone, Hair Du Jour Salon can work with hair textures of all types, thick or thin, coily or straight. They offer cuts, color, styling, treatments, sew-ins, and more, ensuring clients leave looking their best. The salon emphasizes hair health by using products with natural and organic ingredients.

The salon offers hair restoration solutions with its Integrity Hair Growth line, created by Turner in 2005, to help address thinning hair with natural methods and healthy ingredients. Clients can purchase shampoo, conditioner, growth serum, and shine spray to help prevent hair loss, soothe the scalp, restore moisture balance, and make unruly hair easier to manage.

Seeking assistance from PIDC was a crucial step for Turner. “I have been attending PIDC classes for years and I was able to secure funding to purchase a property and I’m looking to open a retail store,” said Turner. She credits PIDC assistance with tangible growth in her business. She’s provided training for additional employees and has gained a tenant whom she assists with their small business endeavors. This growth has led to increased revenue and opportunities for expansion.

Over the years, Hair Du Jour Salon has evolved, incorporating social media marketing, small business mentoring, and classes.  When asked how she keeps the salon innovative, Turner said, “I attend trade shows and take advanced salon designs and business development courses.” This helps her business remain at the forefront of trends and techniques.

She also wants to share her knowledge, so she’s worked hard to help others on their own entrepreneurship journey. “I had a stylist who worked for me for years,” said Turer. “I was able to assist this stylist in opening her own business, which has now expanded and grown.”

Focus on the value you bring as [an] individual, rather than [your] gender. Assessing strengths and weaknesses and working on them daily is key to overcoming any obstacles on the path to success.”

To aspiring women entrepreneurs facing gender-related challenges, Turner says, “Focus on the value you bring as [an] individual, rather than [your] gender. Assessing strengths and weaknesses and working on them daily is key to overcoming any obstacles on the path to success.”

Turner is currently exploring the possibility of opening a retail store with PIDC’s support. We can’t wait to see what this hardworking and determined entrepreneur does next!
