On November 9, PIDC had the pleasure of welcoming—and sponsoring— the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) to Philadelphia for its National Development Finance Summit. PIDC President Jodie Harris helped kick off the summit by sharing how we help grow our local economy and drive growth to every corner of our city through inclusive economic development. Leaders and experts from the development finance industry came together to discuss best practices, trends, financing solutions, and more. PIDC was also proud to lead sessions that highlighted the new innovative development projects that we are driving at the Navy Yard and the Lower Schuylkill River.
Since acquiring the 1,200 acre site in 2000 after the old Naval Base closed in 1996, PIDC has transformed the Navy Yard into a thriving business destination with 150 companies, 15,000 quality jobs, 20 acres of parks, public art, and community events that bring people together. By 2025, there will be 600+ apartment units, adding residents to the thriving community at the Navy Yard. Kate McNamara, Senior Vice President, Navy Yard, outlined PIDC’s progress on this massive undertaking for CDFA attendees. Learn more.
Lower Schuylkill Biotech Campus
PIDC is committed to revitalizing the historic industrial neighborhoods in Southwest Philly and the Lower Schuylkill Biotech Campus is a representation of the collaboration, community engagement, job creation and more that PIDC is working towards. We’re helping cultivate a world-class urban campus for modern cell and gene therapy bioproduction in Southwest Philly, building on the city’s strength as a hub for the life sciences. This historic opportunity represents the culmination of more than a decade of collaboration and community engagement in Southwest Philadelphia to bring together the pieces of an aging industrial waterfront and conceive a better future that would benefit all. During the CDFA Summit, Angie Fredrickson, Vice President, Real Estate Services, highlighted what the future holds for this project. Learn more.
