In a city rooted in love, tradition, and entrepreneurship, businesses that support families and culture serve as vital pillars of Philadelphia’s economic growth. Among these many businesses is Venbisustore, a company dedicated to celebrating Venezuelan culture while uplifting communities.

Founded in 2023 by Gladis Avila, Venbisustore imports handcrafted arts and crafts from towns and cities across Venezuela. The business showcases Venezuela’s rich cultural heritage while creating economic opportunities for entrepreneurial families, especially those impacted by economic instability and restrictive government policies. Avila’s vision was clear from the beginning: to provide stable income to families in need, helping them meet basic necessities and improve their quality of life.

Family has remained a constant source of inspiration for Gladis throughout her journey. Supporting families is both her motivation and a key driver of the business’s success. “Every time I am able to support another family through my business, it feels like a significant achievement,” Alvia says. As Venbisustore LLC grows, so does its impact. “Expanding my inventory not only helps grow the business but also creates more job opportunities, which is key to my mission of helping others.”

Being a business owner comes with its share of challenges, and adapting to changes in the industry is a constant part of the journey. From sourcing products to packaging them, staying innovative is essential to maintaining growth and impact. “Staying innovative and adaptable in this industry means staying closely connected to the people and stories behind our products,” says Avila. This connection not only fuels creativity but also ensures that Venbisustore LLC remains aligned with its mission to provide jobs and uplift Venezuelan culture.

What truly sets Venbisustore apart is its commitment to preserving and promoting Venezuela’s native and artisanal culture. Each handcrafted piece represents resilience, creativity, and tradition. Participating in fairs and events has been especially meaningful for Gladis. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see people resonate with our mission and appreciate the craftsmanship,” she shares. “The support we receive, especially for empowering women who are the primary providers in their families, reminds me why we do this work and inspires me to keep moving forward.”

Through her involvement in the Business Builder En Español workshop, presented by PIDC and Greenline Access Capital, she’s gained valuable insights and resources that have helped expand her outreach. “These resources have been invaluable in opening new doors and reaching new markets,” she says.

Eager to strengthen her financial planning and long-term sustainability, Gladis continues to seek out tools and workshops to help her build a stronger, more resilient business.
