In October 2021, PIDC introduced Business Builder Workshops en Español, Spanish-language workshops led by Hispanic and Latino(a) professionals. These much needed business support workshops address a wide variety of business challenges faced by Hispanic and Latino(a) business owners. To date, PIDC has held 40+ Business Builder Workshops en Español, and it would not have been possible without the support and dedication of local leader and entrepreneur Kersy Azocar.

Kersy Azocar is the President and CEO of Greenline Access Capital, a mission-driven financial institution that helps micro-businesses achieve financial wealth and resiliency. Founded in September 2021, Greenline Access Capital helps promote economic growth, financial inclusion, and long-term sustainability for local businesses, enabling them to thrive and expand.

She has over 18 years of experience in the financial industry. Azocar is originally from the Dominican Republic, which gives her a distinct insight into the challenges Hispanic and Latino(a) business owners deal with. She has become an integral part of Business Builder Workshops en Español, helping us grow the program and reach entrepreneurs that can benefit from its help.

Azocar is a leader in Philadelphia’s Latino(a) business community, and has made it her mission to help connect valuable resources to an underserved group. In coordination with our Business Support Services team, she’s helped PIDC reach over 300 spanish-speaker entrepreneurs through our Business Builder Workshops en Español, providing business education on key topics like financial planning, wealth building, mental health, and strategies to expand their business.

“As our Hispanic/Latino community in Philadelphia continues to grow, Business Builder En Espanol delivers a series of relevant topics which are essential to overcome language barriers and promote inclusive economic growth. Greenline Access Capital is proud to partner with PIDC and tailor these programs to the cultural and linguistic needs of Hispanic and Latino communities.”

President & CEO, Greenline Access Capital

Azocar takes a lead role in creating an annual calendar of topics, selecting innovative subjects not being taught anywhere else in the city. She refers bilingual subject matter experts from various industries to host workshops and works with them to ensure presentations are high-quality, engaging, and clear. She acts as both a project manager and program evangelist, attending all workshops and ensuring the program is running smoothly, while promoting the resources available to entrepreneurs through PIDC. Following a successful workshop, Azocar keeps in contact with attendees, answering questions and encouraging attendance at future workshops.

In addition to education, Azocar has helped connect business owners with financing opportunities through PIDC. Hispanic-owned businesses and Philadelphia mainstays Boricua Restaurant and Silvia’s Bakery both received funding from PIDC with Azocar’s assistance, and several other businesses are interested in learning more.

PIDC is lucky to have Azocar’s expertise and support in helping us reach Hispanic and Latino(a) entrepreneurs and business owners, allowing us to elevate these traditionally underserved communities and continue to help drive growth to every corner of Philadelphia.
